Britain said no to globalism. America said not to globalism. Now, Italy has said no, in a referendum that asked the people whether they wanted a reform of the composition and powers of their Italian parliament. We’re on the brink of something big here, and it’s no surprise that the stock markets are rising after a resurgence of nationalism.
Looking at nationalists in other countries, I don’t see one racist or bigoted group.
Italians want to be Italians, British want to be gay… I mean British.
When it comes down to it, hate speech isn’t really hate speech, and it spurs economies and business. We saw the same thing happen when Trump won the election – the markets dipped, and then skyrocketed.
All this talk of Trump putting a 35% tariff on imports from US companies made them scared, and faster than you could say, “do it” they all pledged to bring their factories back to the US.
Told ya so.
Apparently being tired of elites is not just an American thing, but a global thing. Nigel Farage paved the way, then Trump did it for the Americans. I mean bravo to the world. This is the real globalism – a globe united in rejecting it. We can be separate nations while playing nice with each other. It seems like we all want our slice of independence and we’re speaking out about it, finally.
This world is one, but we’re not the same.
We’re the new punk rock. We’re the new Anti-Establishment. I clung to being counter-culture throughout high school. I remember being booed for giving a presentation during an election season for wearing a Bush/Cheney campaign shirt. I didn’t know better at the time, and it’s a shame that until President Trump was elected, I had to call George Bush the best president of my time.
They’re going to do everything they can to demonize this anti-globalization movement as an all-white phenomenon, but last time I checked, Italians were kind of brown. I mean, they played the Mexicans in spaghetti westerns….
I digress. Nationalism is something that people used to take pride in, and we lost in the last 20-40 years and replaced it with something else – and then when we saw how terrible the new establishment we put in place was, we began to reject it. It’s this rejection of the establishment that started the French Revolution, which saw the Pilgrims cross the ocean and which sparked our own revolution.
The history of the world has always been conquering, and enslaving, but we started to move away from it in the 17th century. Then somehow t, globalism appeared out of nowhere and seemed to come back to life like a god-damn walker.
So to Italy, Rick Grimes the shit out the socialists. Welcome to the club.
